Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant that brightens the complexion and reduces the signs of aging. In its direct form, vitamin C is unstable in water. Ascorbyl glucoside is a water-soluble derivative of vitamin C. It is much more stable in water, but less potent than direct L-ascorbic acid. Because it is better suited to water, the serum can achieve a very pleasant texture. It is considered the gold standard among vitamin C derivatives due to its high stability and ease of use, but it is impossible to achieve the extremely high efficacy of L-ascorbic acid with this solution. Apart from the general benefits of direct vitamin C, ascorbyl glucoside has been shown to offer the skin specific brightening benefits.
Topical vitamin C offers a wide range of benefits for the skin. However, there are many forms of vitamin C and even more vitamin C-based formulations available, which can lead to confusion among the public. We have developed a guide that can serve as a guideline regarding the vitamin C formulations in The Ordinary range. The guide also provides information about vitamin C itself and the differences between vitamin C-based formulations in general. Click here for this guide.
