As of late August 2017, The Ordinary’s retinoid portfolio has been expanded based on valuable customer feedback. As part of these introductions, Advanced Retinoid 2% has been renamed Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion to align with the new naming convention of the expanded range. This formula still offers a 2% emulsion of the same advanced retinoid complex.
This formula combines two new forms of retinoic active ingredients:
a) A concentration of 2% Granactive Retinoid™, a complex of dissolved hydroxypinacolone retinoate (HPR). HPR is a highly advanced form of retinoid, essentially an over-the-counter ester of all-trans direct retinoic acid that offers a much better effect against the signs of aging than retinol, retinyl palmitate, and almost all other forms of over-the-counter retinoid,
b) A sustained-release form of pure retinol in a protective capsule system that supports both the delivery and the effect of Granactive Retinoid™.
Both forms used avoid the irritation associated with the use of retinoids (including retinol) and, moreover, offer better visible results against the signs of aging.
This product uses next-generation retinoid-active technologies, which have been shown to provide a greater reduction in the signs of skin aging than retinol, without irritation. Just as retinol cannot be compared to retinoic acid in terms of concentration, these technologies cannot be directly compared to retinol itself in terms of concentration, because they contain a different retinoid molecule.
