Jacques Guerlain named his creation "Mitsouko" after the heroine in the bestselling novel of the time, *La Bataille*. Mitsouko, a beautiful married Japanese woman, secretly loves a British officer. In 1905, the Russo-Japanese War breaks out. Mitsouko awaits the outcome of the battle with dignity, magnanimously controlling her feelings. Jacques Guerlain had the incredible and daring idea to combine a chypre with a very fruity note of peach, giving this fragrance its very modern style.
The iconic "inverted heart" bottle, designed by Georges Chevalier, is accented with graceful curls typical of Art Nouveau. The avant-garde cap, in the shape of a hollowed-out heart, evokes the delicate romance of this masterpiece of perfumery and was a true technical marvel at the time.

Mitsouko, a masterpiece of balance and originality, combines a fruity note of peach with jasmine flowers and May rose. The perfume's mysterious base note blends notes of spices with those of undergrowth and vetiver. Mitsouko initiated the use of the peach note in perfumes. Mitsouko illustrates the innovative side of its creators and is the first fruity chypre fragrance in the perfume world, following other chypre fragrances introduced by Guerlain.
